Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi has commended the 10th House of Representatives for their efforts towards making the Baro Inland Port located in Niger state functional.
This commendation is coming in response to the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee’s oversight tour of the port.
Senator Bima described the Baro Inland Port as a national asset with the potential to transform the socio-economic landscape of Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
He noted that the port had previously played host to multinational companies like UAC, providing employment opportunities for thousands of people before its abandonment in the 1970s.
The Senator recalled that the late President Musa Yar’dua had awarded a contract for the dredging of River Niger in 2009 to revive economic activities at the port.
However, he stated that the project was abandoned, and the port’s current state remains incomplete.
Senator Bima had previously moved a motion in the 9th Assembly to complete the necessary components of the Baro port and had even led a delegation to visit the port, which was followed with a world press conference.
Although Senator Enagi is no longer in the Senate, his efforts have laid a solid foundation for the current House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee, led by Rep. Saidu Musa Abdullahi, to build upon.
The Committee’s recent visit to the port is seen as a significant step towards reviving the Baro port.
” The move, I believe will make the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to see the reason why the development of a functional Baro port must be prioritized.,” he maintained.
The development of Gurara Suleja and Tafa Federal Constituency….My priority
