A political analyst, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, has urged the people of Gurara Local Government Area in Niger State to reject desperate and unstable politicians who jump ship from one party to another in search of elective positions in the forthcoming council election.
Dr. Ibrahim who made this appeal while speaking to Journalists, specifically targeted Hon. Attahiru Musa Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) Chairmanship Candidate, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after losing the party’s council seat ticket during the primary election.
He described politicians who frequently switch parties as “annoying, reckless, and feckless,” driven by selfish goals and a desire to get rich.
Dr. Ibrahim noted that Hon. Abubakar’s defection to PDP was likely motivated by his desire to secure the Chairmanship seat at all costs, particularly given the recent local government autonomy.
The analyst stated, ” Hon. Abubakar had previously contested for the council seat on the APC platform but was repeatedly rejected by the electorates due to his perceived lack of fitness and experience for the position”.
Dr. Ibrahim also mentioned that the candidate had attempted to persuade the SDP candidate to step down in his favor, which was rejected.
According to him, ” Such desperation is detrimental to the democratic space and should be rejected by the electorates during the local government election”.
However,, Hon. John Ishaya, the Gurara APC Chairmanship Candidate, assured the electorates that the development witnessed under Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s leadership was “just a tip of the iceberg” and promised more to come.
