The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has charged Honourable Members of the 10th Assembly to work together as a team to achieve their common goal of legislating laws that will benefit the people of Niger State.

In his welcoming address to welcome back his colleagues from the Sallah recess, the Speaker emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation among Members. He also welcomed back Members who had gone on pilgrimage to the holy land.

In a significant development, the Niger State House of Assembly has mandated the House Standing Committees on Education and Security to investigate the remote causes of the recent robbery attacks on students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai. This decision was taken after a motion of urgent public importance was presented by Hon. Muhammad Sani Idris, Member Representing Tafa Constituency.

The motion highlighted the alarming rate of robbery attacks on students of the university, which has resulted in the loss of life and property. Hon. Idris emphasized the need for a multi-faceted approach to address this issue, involving the government, school management, and security agencies.

The House unanimously adopted all the prayers of the motion, calling on the Executive Arm of Government to intervene in the rising wave of robbery attacks bedeviling students of the university.

In another development, the House received a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Ndagi Zakari Kinbokun, Member Representing Mokwa Constituency, calling on the Executive Arm of Niger State Government to urgently proffer lasting solutions to the continuous rising spate of flooding occurring in Mokwa Local Government Area.

The House directed all relevant government agencies to extend intervention and relief materials to victims of flooding in kpautagi, Ja’agi, and Tsawale communities of Mokwa Local Government Area.

The House also commenced debate on the second reading of a Bill for a law to Amend the Niger State Polytechnic Zungeru Law, 2018, and other connected matters. The Bill was referred to the House Standing Committee on Education for further legislative action and to report back to the House in two weeks.

The Speaker of the House commended Members for their various inputs and urged the House Standing Committees on Education and Security to immediately swing into action and pay visit to IBBUL condole the school management over the killing and robbery attack of the student.
