NIGERIAN AIR FORCE KILLS 61 ISWAP FIGHTERS IN BORNO

Nigerian Air Force (NAF),in collaboration with Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralised no fewer than 61 suspected ISWAP terrorists during a failed infiltration attempt on a military formation in Borno State.

The insurgents reportedly launched an attack in the early hours of Wednesday on Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area, targeting troops at the 68 Battalion location.

According to the Military sources,  the terrorists were advancing on foot from the Duguri axis and deployed armed drones in what was described as a desperate attempt to breach the military base.

The attack was however repelled following what officials described as coordinated and overwhelming firepower from both ground troops and air components.

The troops, backed by precision air strikes, reportedly engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle, inflicting heavy casualties on them.

The integration of air and ground was said to have played a decisive role in the outcome of the encounter.

“The synergy between air and land forces denied the terrorists freedom of movement and forced a disorderly withdrawal towards the Arege general area after suffering heavy casualties.”

“The allied forces from neighbouring Niger Republic also conducted rapid strike passes in support of the operation, thereby compounding the pressure on the fleeing insurgents,” the source added.

The latest confrontation highlights the continued efforts by Nigerian military forces under Operation Hadin Kai to counter insurgent activities in the North-East, particularly in border communities prone to cross-border attacks by extremist groups.
