HIGH COST OF FARM INPUTS, SEN. BIMA APPEALS TO PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR INTERVENTION…

Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi has urged the federal government to make agricultural inputs more affordable for Nigerian farmers, citing the high costs of fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides as a major challenge in the country.

In a recent interview with Newsmen in Abuja, Enagi praised President Tinubu and Niger State Governor Bago’s efforts in the agricultural sector but emphasized the need for policies to address the issue.

According to him, ” Although President Tinubu and Farmer Governor Bago are doing their best to address the challenges in the agricultural sector, there is the need for policy framework that would address the high cost of farm inputs especially fertilizers, pesticides and insecticide, presently threatening the livelihood of farmers across Nigeria”.

He commended President Tinubu for lowering food prices, bringing relief to Nigerians amidst the cost of living crisis while stressed the need for balancing food affordability with sustainable income for farmers.

He praised Governor Bago’s support for federal agricultural initiatives and highlighted insecurity in farming areas as a threat to food security.

Bima, however, believed the steps taken by the Tinubu led administration will address insecurity, and supporting farmers with affordable inputs to boost food production.

“While the crash in agricultural produce by prices is acknowledged, there’s a need to support our farmers with affordable inputs to boost food production,” he said.
