In continuation of sustained efforts to guarantee adequate and reliable water supply in Minna, the Niger State capital, and other urban centres across the state, Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has issued a firm directive to the management and staff of the Niger State Water Board to rise to their responsibilities or face decisive administrative action.
The Governor gave the warning during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the Chanchaga Waterworks, where he expressed dissatisfaction over persistent water shortages in parts of the capital city despite ongoing investments and government interventions in the sector.
Addressing workers at the facility, including the Permanent Secretary and senior management staff, Governor Bago cautioned that failure to deliver on their mandate would attract serious consequences, including possible dismissal.
He stressed that the present administration has provided the necessary financial backing, equipment, technical support, and policy direction required to ensure optimal performance.
“It is unacceptable for Minna to lack adequate water supply,” the Governor stated, underscoring that access to potable water is not a privilege but a fundamental necessity for public health, sanitation, economic productivity, and overall quality of life.
Governor Bago reiterated that his administration remains committed to revitalising critical infrastructure across the state, particularly in the water sector, which plays a central role in urban development. He noted that the Water Board has been repositioned with the resources needed to meet growing demand and therefore must deliver measurable results.
He further directed officials to ensure constant and uninterrupted water supply to residents, warning that excuses for underperformance would no longer be tolerated.
According to him, the government’s investments must translate into tangible improvements that citizens can feel in their homes and businesses.
The visit forms part of a broader monitoring and accountability framework adopted by the administration to ensure that ministries, departments, and agencies align with the state’s development priorities.
The Governor reaffirmed that the provision of essential services, including water, remains a top priority under his governance agenda.
Residents have been assured that government will continue to strengthen oversight mechanisms, upgrade facilities, and enforce service standards to guarantee sustainable water supply not only in Minna but in other major towns across Niger State.
The administration maintains that improved water infrastructure is critical to achieving long-term socio-economic growth and enhancing the living standards of the people.
