COUNCIL SECRETARY ABDUCTED IN BORNO…

The Secretary of Kukawa Local Government Council in Borno State, has been abducted by unknown Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents.

The victim was reportedly abducted at approximately 1:35 pm on Tuesday while travelling to Kukawa in a Volkswagen Golf vehicle.

According to a security source, the insurgents intercepted the vehicle, forced the secretary disembark, and released the remaining passengers.

The victim was then led into the bush. A local informant told Daily Trust that the insurgents acted on a tip-off, waiting near the river to ambush the vehicle.

In response, the Sector 3 military command has deployed troops to track and rescue the victims after receiving a distress call. Kukawa Local Government Area lies within the Lake Chad region, a hotspot for Boko Haram activity, where residents and travellers frequently face attacks.

This incident follows a deadly attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters just two days earlier, when seven people, including hunters, Civilian Joint Task Force members, and community watch operatives were killed in Magumeri Local Government Area.
