The Nigerian state-governors have been advised to be honest with their political supporters and those who stood for them….
Shehu Atiku Abubakar, the Son of former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, made this appeal through his X account while reacting to the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s defection to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) at the expense of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He maintained that Governor Fintiri defected to the All Progressives Congress ( APC) to evade a probe by the Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies at the end of his administration.
” The Governors are defecting to the ruling party ( APC) , think that the ruling party is poised to winning the 2027 presidential election, hence the need for them to align with the ruling party in order to evade being probed for misappropriation of funds during their governorship administration.” Shehu Abubakar declared
He said “Govs should be honest enough to their people who stood by them. They moved to APC for protection from prosecution of corruption cases. They believe if APC wins & they are on the losing side, they will be locked up, so they don’t want to risk it. Its purely for self preservation”
Shehu Abubakar’s remark comes in the face of a statement by the special adviser to president Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanugu in which he taunted Atiku Abubakar over Fintiri’s defection.
