In a significant political shift, Hon. Abdulhamid Elwazir (Talban Kontagora) a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former two-term Council Chairman, former Member House of Assembly and 3 term Special Adviser on Legislative matters has officially announced his departure from the ruling party to join the Coalition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as of July 17, 2025.
In a public address outlining his decision, Elwazir expressed serious concerns regarding pressing national challenges. He criticized the APC-led government for what he described as “flagrant neglect” of key stakeholders.
He lamented the exclusion of experienced politicians from vital discussions, which has hindered their ability to effectively engage with constituents and contribute to state development.
Elwazir raised alarms over the government’s insufficient response to escalating security threats, noting a troubling rise in casualties across the nation. “The lack of a clear direction from the federal and state governments on security is deeply concerning,” he remarked, calling for immediate and decisive action to address these ongoing issues.
The former legislator also voiced economic concerns, particularly regarding policy decisions that have worsened food insecurity and poverty among citizens. He criticized the removal of fuel subsidies, arguing that it was implemented without a comprehensive plan and has failed to deliver the promised benefits to the populace.
Furthermore, Elwazir highlighted the government’s increasing reliance on loans as a troubling trend that jeopardizes the financial well-being of ordinary citizens. He emphasized the growing burden faced by families, especially women and children, in securing basic necessities, stating, “The growing burden on the common people is unacceptable.”
