As the 2027 general election approaches, the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress in a dramatic shift have abandoned Governor Siminalayi Fubara and pledged its full support to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The Group’s Chairman, George Sekibo made the announcement during Wike’s “thank you” tour of Okrika Local Government Area on Saturday.
Sekibo described the ongoing rift between Fubara and Wike as “very unfortunate” but emphasised that the Ijaw community remains deeply grateful.
He however highlighted Wike’s pivotal role in elevating Fubara, an Ijaw native, to the governorship—a move that enjoyed statewide backing.
“Please don’t look at him and think we are all ungrateful people. Ijaw people are very grateful people.
“That is why we abandoned him (Fubara) and said we will follow you. You have done so much for Ijaw people in Rivers. Whatever you say we should do, is what we will do,” Sekibo Declared.
