
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) on Wednesday presented Certificates of Return to the newly elected local government chairmen and their vice at a brief but colourful ceremony held in Minna, the state capital.
The event marked the formal conclusion of the recently conducted local government elections across the state, which were widely described as peaceful, transparent, and well-organized.
Speaking on behalf of the Niger State Government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs and Strategy, Mallam Mohammed Nma Kolo, who was ably represented by Prince Innocent Kure, the ICT Coordinator in his office, expressed the government’s satisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the elections.
Mallam Kolo commended the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission for successfully carrying out its first major assignment since assumption of office. He noted that the Commission, led by its Chairman, Engr. Jibrl Imam Gawu, had demonstrated professionalism and integrity in organizing an election that witnessed impressive voter turnout and credible results.
“The state government is highly impressed with the way and manner the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission conducted the local government elections,” he said. “It was their first major task since taking office, and the peaceful, free, and fair nature of the polls is commendable. His Excellency, Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, urges the Commission not to relent but to continue to improve in the years ahead.”
While congratulating the newly elected chairmen and their vice, the Special Adviser charged them to emulate the exemplary leadership style of Governor Bago by ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt at the grassroots.
He reminded them of the importance of inclusive governance, urging them to bring development closer to the people and uphold the values of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Your election is a call to service. Follow the footprints of Farmer Governor Umaru Bago by ensuring that everyone, especially at the grassroots, feels the impact of good governance. Keep the APC flag flying high and make Niger State proud,” he added.
The event was attended by the Speaker state house of Assembly, members of the house of assembly, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and representatives of security agencies.
Certificates of Return were presented to all the newly elected chairmen and their vice amid applause and jubilation from supporters and party faithful.
