The troops from 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, , have cleared several bandit hideouts in Takum and Ussa local government areas of Taraba State.
The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad who disclosed this to journalists in a statement on Monday explained that the action was part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa.
He stated that the operation was based on reliable intelligence regarding bandit activities in Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, Kando in Takum, and locations within Ussa LGA where farmland had been damaged.
He stated that on October 5, troops initiated simultaneous clearance operations in the affected regions.
“Team A moved into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where they encountered bandits. The troops’ superior firepower compelled the criminals to escape into the forest. In their follow-up operations, they retrieved four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle,” according to the statement.
He added that “ another Team conducted operations in Lissam, Ussa LGA, which led to successfully clearing several suspected bandit camps without encountering any resistance,” i.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6th Brigade, praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism.
