No fewer than 20 person were declared dead on Friday night in a fatal accident involving a truck, a tricycle and a Sienna car at the Commissioner of Police Junction in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The accident, which happened in the evening around left many others injured.
According to the eyewitnesses, the truck driver was speeding and lost control.
“It was nothing but rough driving. Look at it, a Keke was damaged and cars as well. This shows the speed he came with inside town,” said Mustapha Ahmed, an eyewitness.
Another witness, Hadiza Musa, claimed that some victims were pulled out of vehicles already lifeless..
“It was a tragic incident; some of the victims were already dead,” she said.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, were unsuccessful as calls were not answered or returned at press time.
Though ambulances and police patrol vehicles were seen at the scene, evacuating victims to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.
