The Jakadan Noma Foundation, under the leadership of Engr. Bashir Khalil Tanko, has partnered with Sakata Vegetable Europe SAS to launch a specialized training program for women and youth farmers in Paikoro and Bosso Local Government Areas of Niger State. The initiative has already benefited over 62 participants.

Engr. Tanko said the program’s goal is to enhance agricultural skills by providing participants with modern techniques that improve vegetable production, productivity, and profitability. He emphasized that focusing on women and young farmers will promote greater inclusive participation within Niger State’s agricultural value chain.

The training was led by Dr. Hadiza Yaro, West Africa Sales Manager of Sakata Vegetable Europe SAS. She outlined the comprehensive curriculum, which covered improved seed selection, nursery establishment, soil preparation, irrigation management, pest and disease control, and post harvest handling. Additionally, participants learned climate smart farming practices to reduce losses, increase yields, and support sustainable year round production.

Dr. Yaro highlighted the importance of practical demonstrations, ensuring farmers gain hands on experience applying the new techniques effectively.

Niger Foods donated 100 seed trays to the program, which are intended to help facilitate the raising of 10,500 seedlings for dry season pepper farming.

After theory sessions, participants visited the Tagwai Dam farm to engage directly in hands on fieldwork and observe live demonstrations.

This training program aims to boost local vegetable production and contribute to the wider agricultural development efforts across Niger State.

Joyce Frank, one of the participants, applauded the initiative and assured stepping down the training to others in her community.
