2027 GENERAL ELECTION:  NNPP STOPS KWANKWASO

The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not be allowed to contest under the party’s platform in the 2027 general elections.

The National Secretary of the Party,  Ogini Olaposi made the announcement recently in a Statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.

Olaposi explained that the party’s 2027 ticket will only be open to bona fide members who follow proper party processes, and that past agreements between the NNPP and Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya Movement have expired after the 2023 polls.

According to the NNPP, those expelled for anti-party activities including Kwankwaso and other top figures have not been reinstated, and thus cannot contest using the party’s platform.

The party also said it is open to alliances with other political parties ahead of 2027, provided they share similar ideologies and go through proper channels.

Opposition parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are actively building coalitions and outreach committees to woo key political figures for the 2027 elections, though they have not committed to specific candidates yet.

Separately, the NNPP has publicly criticised recent defections by governors and other political figures to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the trend damaging to democratic stability.
